Compassion Farming

At Equal Vision Cow Sanctuary we promote the practice of Compassion Farming whereby humans and animals work cooperatively in a symbiotic relationship for the benefit of all; where animals are given lifelong protection in exchange for their milk, dung and drought power. We focus on the cow because out of all animal  species, the bovines bring the largest number of readily appreciable benefits to human society.
Their nutritious  milk builds strong bones and fine brain tissues, Their dung is useful to make compost for vegetable and grain crops. Dung can also be used to create methane fuel, a renewable and locally generated resource. In many countries their dung is also used for building materials, and many houses built this way have lasted over a hundred years.

The oxen can also be useful in light draught power around the farm to replace expensive machinery. A well trained ox team is a wonderful attraction at  fairs and parades. In fact they love to be animal ambassadors. Our years of experience has shown that oxen do not mind being worked as long as they are treated with respect and well cared for.

We are promoting a natural farming system that is based on harmony, cooperation and stewardship of the land; where people can get locally grown, nutritious food that is grown on nutrient rich soils.

We are what we eat.  Making the world a better place can be as simple as changing the way  we produce our food. We think every region should have a compassion farm, where consumers can get to know the farmers, animals and land that help to produce their food.

Compassion Farming

food grown with love.

“The central fact of Hinduism is cow protection. Cow protection to me is one of the most wonderful phenomenon in human evolution. It takes the human being beyond his species. The cow to me means the entire subhuman world. Man through the cow is enjoined to realize his identity with all that lives…Protection of the cow means the protection of the whole  creation of God…” – Mohandas Gandhi on Cow Protection

Compassion Farming

Protected Cows Milk – A farming system where cows and their offspring are given life time protection was practiced by Mahatma Gandhi at his ashrams in India. Cows are creators of abundance. They convert things that humans cannot use- like grass- into milk, fertilizer and methane fuel. Humans and animals can work symbiotically to provide for each others’ needs in a way that benefits all.

Wisdom and Compassion – It is time to create a food supply system that is rooted in principles of compassion and wisdom.  When the animals that we depend upon for food are treated with kindness, and the land which provides our sustenance is stewarded with the awareness that it is the property of God, then our food will resonate with peace.
